Tell us about Amit Dixit Design and what you do

Amit Dixit Design | London is a boutique luxury interior design studio based in the heart of Mayfair. We deliver high-end projects in various sectors including hospitality, wellness, F&B, residential and retail. Each project is unique to us and we create a bespoke and innovative design for each project based on the client’s brief and context of the project.

Why have you partnered with the Independent Hotel Show to bring the show’s Dining Room to life this year?

This is our 3rd year in a row as a design partner of this amazing show. We have done two more shows in Amsterdam as well. The show gives us an opportunity to showcase our creative design and create new design trends for the hospitality industry as well as we get a chance to meet various hoteliers to learn more about their needs and how we can contribute to this amazing industry.

What is important to consider when it comes to hotel design?

The guest experience should be the utmost priority when it comes to the design of hotels. We focus on creating the spaces which invokes the human senses through our design.

What was your approach to designing the Dining Room this year?

“Luxury” is very personal and can be defined by individuals in a different way. We have tried to create the space which we hope will invoke the human senses through natural materials, finishes and by bringing nature into the space. It is like redefining luxury with Biophilia.

What sustainability considerations were there for this design?

The whole design began with the idea of sustainability. With use of materials, finishes as well as the simple process of installation. All has been thought through in our design for this year’s dining room.

What suppliers have you worked with for the design?

This year, we have worked on an amazing fine dining restaurant project in Sheffield, where we used some of the suppliers whom we have also brought to this show in our design for the dining room feature space. All the organic and natural material-based wallpapers are supplied by “Organoid”. For the wall feature lights, we have worked with “Franklite”. For the sustainable artificial plants and floral arrangements, we have worked with “Silk-ka”. For the hanging ceramic handmade pendants, we are supported by “Andra Munro Design” and for the feature table portable lights, we are supported by “Humble”. We have also partnered with our amazing contractor’s team “Belvedere” to help us with the installation.

Where do you find inspiration for your designs?

In all our projects, the inspiration comes from the context and client’s design brief. Also, we try to create the synergy between human and nature in creation of our design. Sometimes our design is intuitive and spontaneous rather than theoretical. We as a creative design studio, love to explore new materials. We also love working with various local craftsman and artist to bring unique character and human touch to the design, rather than making the design look industrial or machine made. The arts and craft, nature and human senses drive our design and creativity in each of our design projects.

Mezwaani - Restro & Bar -A New Chapter for Sheffield

In the heart of Sheffield’s gastronomic hub, on Ecclesall Road, a new culinary landmark has emerged, challenging the boundaries of traditional dining environments.

When we were first approached with the brief, the objective was clear: create a fine-dining experience that Sheffield has never seen before.

The client sought a space that felt both alien and familiar—a unique sanctuary that could house a sophisticated fusion of Indian and Oriental cuisines while offering an immersive experience.

The Core Philosophy: Biophilic Storytelling

The architectural soul of Mezwaani is rooted in Biophilic Design.

We believe that the most successful spaces are those that foster a deep, subconscious connection between humans and the natural world.

To achieve this, we moved away from clinical luxury, opting instead for a theme we call “From the Mystic Land of India.”

This narrative allowed us to explore India’s lush, organic heritage through a contemporary design lens.

We wanted to move beyond the literal, instead playing with textures, finishes, and light to evoke the feeling of a vibrant, living ecosystem and in fusion with minimalistic Oriental design elements in the background.

“The palette is a study in contrast: fine-textured walls by Textured Paints Company provide a subtle backdrop to the raw, organic warmth of the handcrafted terracotta surfaces. Lighting is treated as sculpture, featuring artisanal ceramic pendants.” Amit Dixit.

Material Innovation: Use of Hand crafted & Natural Materials

The focal point of the lounge is the back-lit bar counter and display unit.

In a bold move toward tactile materiality, we utilized natural rubber leaf self-adhesive surfaces.

These surfaces, when illuminated from behind, reveal the intricate skeletal structures of the leaves, casting an ethereal, amber glow that grounds the room in organic honesty.

Lighting served as our primary tool for drama. We collaborated with ceramic artists to produce handcrafted hanging pendants.

While some mimic the playful silhouette of falling leaves, the central installation is a masterpiece of atmospheric design: a glowing cluster of “Lily Pads” suspended from the ceiling, creating a canopy that feels like a field of light floating above the diners.

The textured painted walls, by the Textured Paint Company, and hand-made natural concrete texture panels add drama to the space throughout.

The Fusion: Where India Meets the Orient

Mezwaani’s culinary identity—a fusion of Indian and Oriental flavours—is reflected in the spatial architecture.

We integrated sliding Shoji screens crafted from timber and linen, offering a nod to Oriental minimalism while providing a soft, translucent layering to the floor plan.

To define the transition from the high-energy lounge to the formal dining sanctuary, we employed vertical timber members.

These dividers provide a sense of privacy without sacrificing the open, airy flow of the restaurant.

Throughout the space, artificial trees and cascading hanging plants add a final layer of theatricality, ensuring that every corner of Mezwaani feels alive, lush, and undeniably unique
